Honest Help for Your Home: From Clifton Hill to Preston. Kristian—your local handyman
"I love what I do—and it shows in the work."
Hi, I’m Kristian! I started Kandyman with a simple goal: to help my neighbors keep their homes in top shape. Whether you’re living in a heritage house in Clifton Hill or a modern apartment in Preston, I know that every home comes with its own set of "personality quirks."
What sets us apart? My background in engineering. While I handle all the traditional handyman tasks, I also love the unique challenges that require a bit of extra brainpower. I’m not just there to tick a box; I’m there to find the smartest, most durable solution for your home.

About me
The Full Story: From Engineering to Your Front Door
My path to founding Kandyman was built on a foundation of diverse experience:
The Foundation: It started at Monash University studying Engineering, where I learned to look at the world through the lens of structural logic and creative problem-solving.
The Tools: Managing a Total Tools branch put me in the middle of the trades. I learned the "ins and outs" of every professional tool and technique available.
The Eye for Detail: A decade in IT Sales taught me the importance of clear communication, while renovating several of my own homes and investment properties gave me the "owner’s perspective" on quality.
The Professional Standard: During COVID, I spent two years working with a Registered Builder. This was a deep dive into residential and commercial builds, where I mastered the high-level care required for both heritage period homes and modern developments.
Recent work
Draft sealing and floor edging
Finish Carpentry & Period Trim Restoration Restored the aesthetic and energy efficiency of a vintage home after carpet removal. This project involved custom-fitting period-accurate baseboards to close air gaps and eliminate unsightly transitions. Specialised work included precision-cutting complex miter joints to seamlessly wrap the architectural angles of a classic bay window.
Fence replacement retaining existing vines
Fence Replacement & Greenery Preservation
This project required a delicate balance of structural work and horticultural care. The original fence was failing, but it supported a beautiful, established vine that the client wanted to save.
The Challenge
Delicate Extraction: Carefully removing a collapsing fence without damaging the mature vines woven through it.
Seamless Integration: Installing a new fence and precisely matching the height to existing sections for a uniform look.
Modernisation: Removing outdated fence toppers to create a cleaner, contemporary profile.
The Result
The new structural fence is now securely in place, providing a sturdy foundation for the garden. Once the build was complete, the established greenery was meticulously re-attached to the new panels to maintain the garden's privacy and character.
What’s Next?
To ensure the timber lasts for decades, I will return after a six-week weathering period to apply a professional seal and paint. This essential final step protects the wood against the elements and completes the aesthetic transformation.
Collapsed verandah repair
A collapsed verandah beam on a 100+ year-old Clifton Hill home required a mix of heavy structural work and fine heritage detailing. I replaced the rotted timber with a custom-shaped engineered beam, integrated it into the existing masonry, and hand-finished the decorative mortar work. From structural safety to aesthetic preservation, the verandah is now back to its former glory.
Deck restoration
Project Spotlight: Professional Deck Restoration & Preservation
This project involved a deck that had become severely weathered due to uneven sun exposure. Because half of the deck was shaded and the other half was in direct sunlight, the timber had developed an unsightly, patchy appearance.
Our restoration process focused on achieving a uniform finish and long-term protection:
Chemical Stripping: We used an industrial-grade stripper to remove old, failing finishes and neutralise the "two-toned" sun damage, bringing the timber back to a clean, even slate.
Precision Sanding: After pressure cleaning, timber grains often become raised and rough. We finely sanded the entire surface to ensure a smooth, professional feel underfoot.
Premium Protection: We applied two coats of Cutek, my top-recommended restoration solution. Unlike topical stains, Cutek penetrates deep into the wood fibers.
The Result
The deck now boasts a perfectly even tone and is fully shielded against the elements. Beyond the aesthetics, the Cutek application actively works to extend the life of the decking timbers by protecting them from the inside out.
Plaster Repair & Custom Color Matching
Wall damage doesn't have to be permanent. For this project, I removed the damaged section and installed custom backing to ensure a structurally sound repair. After fitting a new plaster patch, I feathered and sanded the area to a seamless, flat finish. To ensure a perfect result, I used the original debris to get a custom color match from Inspiration Paints, leaving the wall looking brand new.
Hang dryer in eurolaundry
I love a handy homeowner, but sometimes the “I can do this” spirit leads to a “help is on the way” moment. Today’s rescue involved a customer who tried to tackle a ceiling-mounted dryer and extractor fan install solo. Unfortunately, gravity won this round—the unit was dropped, and the customer ended up with an injury. (Wishing them a speedy recovery! ❤️) I stepped in to get things back on track:
Don’t risk your back (or your ceiling!)—give a pro a call.
